RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION CLASSES
When children are baptized, parents promise
to raise these children in the knowledge and practice of their faith. This
commitment includes formal religious instruction. If your child is not enrolled
in a Catholic school program, you are cordially invited to become involved with
the religious formation program. We have openings in grades Preschool-8. For
information, please call 412-321-3186.
Religious
Education Classes will resume on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Registration
forms have been mailed to all previously enrolled students. If you were not registered
last year and would like to enroll, please call the Religious Education Office
and a registration form will be mailed to you prior to opening day. Any child
who has not received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation is strongly
urged to enroll in religious formation classes. These classes are necessary for
the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS
If you are interested in the Catholic faith or if you are a
baptized Catholic who has not finished your initiation in the faith through the
Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation, please call 412-321-3186 for
information. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a
faith formation process which prepares a person for full initiation into the
Catholic faith.
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION CLASSES
Baptismal
Preparation Classes will be held on Monday, September 13, October 4,
November 1, and December 6, 2010 at 7:00 PM in Cardinal Wright Regional

mailed to our parishioners. So that your payment is credited for the
current month, we ask all parishioners to please return their payment by mail
or drop it in the collection basket no later than Monday, October 4, 2010. Thank
you for your support.
PARISH IMPROVEMENT OFFERING
The monthly collection for parish
improvements will be taken this weekend at all Masses. Your generous offerings
given this week or throughout the coming month help us continue caring for and
maintaining the many buildings and facilities of Holy Wisdom Parish. Thank you
for your continued support.
SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY SENDS THANKS
Last weekend at all Masses, the quarterly
collection for the work of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society was taken up to
assist the society in aiding the poor and needy in your name. Thank you for your generosity to this
appeal.
MISSIONARY COOPERATIVE APPEAL
At all Masses this weekend, a special collection will be taken up for the
work of the Cimboni Missionary Sisters as part of our parish participation in
the Annual Mission Cooperative Program for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Please be
generous.
BISHOP'S EDUCATION FUND APPEAL
A special collection
will be taken throughout the diocese for the Bishop's Education Fund at all
Masses next weekend. Catholic schooling is the most effective way to
ensure that our faith is passed on for future generations. For some parents, a
Catholic education is not attainable for their children without tuition
assistance. You can help these parents, their children and your Church with a
generous gift to the Bishop's Education Fund. All of the money given in this
collection will help these families to meet the rising cost of tuition in our
Catholic schools. This collection assists our parish in paying the
assessment of $27,160.00 for elementary school education. Families from our own parish have benefited
from this fund. As the resources in the fund continue to grow, greater
assistance will be available. Please give generously.
BORN
TO ETERNAL LIFE
Our sympathy and assurance of prayers is extended
to the family and friends of Barbara Frankovich and Frank Waldorf
who died last week. May their souls and the souls of all the
faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

EMBRACING
YOUR CROSS
We often speak of the “crosses” we must
carry in life. These can range from loss of a job to a serious or terminal
illness to unhealthy relationships, and so on. The cross has become the
wide-ranging metaphor for the trials, ills, and discomforts that are part and
parcel of every human life. While we all understand this use of the word “cross,”
it does a disservice to what the Jesus of the Gospels means by it. For him, a “cross”
is not something that fate, bad luck, or unfortunate circumstances foists upon
one. It is, instead, something one chooses, something one embraces.
For Jesus, carrying the cross in
discipleship was the rejection of earthly possessions or status,
it was the sundering of bonds of kinship or friendship. It was, above all, the
necessary kind of self-sacrificing, self-surrendering choice one had to make in
order to be a true disciple. When life hands us a “cross,” we pray to the Lord
to give us strength to bear it. If we are to be true disciples, we must also
pray for the strength to reach out and willingly accept a cross as well. To
bear up, with God’s grace, under the burdens that are not of our own choosing
does take a strong faith. But to walk willingly under the weight of the cost of
discipleship shows an even stronger desire to spread the gospel of Jesus
Christ.
